Maitreya Buddha is also known as the Future Buddha. It is said that after 56.7 billion years, he will succeed Sakyamuni. His broad forehead symbolizes boundless wisdom; his long ears reaching the shoulders represent longevity and wealth; his exposed belly and back imply sincerity and generosity; and his potbelly indicates great tolerance. His compassionate face represents endless kindness, and his beaming smile indicates bringing joy to the world. The bag in his hand means taking on responsibilities and letting go of worries; holding the Buddhist beads in his hand represents his grasp of the future. His beaming smile makes people feel happy at first sight, and he is also telling us to smile at life. Life is only a few decades long. Whether in adversity or prosperity, we should look inward, awaken our lives, and be indifferent to fame and fortune, optimistic and open-minded, generous and kind to others, and make good connections.
